Software Developer PDF Print E-mail

RATIONALE:

The modern world is driven on by software-controlled systems and the software industry is by now the far largest technology sector. Virtually all electrical equipment now includes some kind of software. Software is used to help run manufacturing industry, school and universities, healthcare, finance and government. Many people use software of different kinds for entertainment and education.

The software developer is a key player in most modern high-tech innovations and crucial business systems. He has to be concerned with user requirements, cost constraints, timely delivery of product, feasibility of customer’s concept, quality of the software product, reliability, safety, and long-term maintenance. A strong base of technical skills therefore, coupled with an ability to communicate and manage software projects, needs to be honed in the individual. This training therefore should be available from the many programs being offered at ACLC.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Associate Degree in Software Development is a 2-year ladderized curriculum, which offers students the opportunity to become competent software designers and developers, as they advance from one certification level to another. At the end of the first two (2) trimesters, the students are already given a Certificate in Software Development upon acquiring foundation knowledge and skills in basic programming using C/C++. Advancing further into the next two (2) trimesters, a Diploma in Software Development is given upon acquiring intermediate knowledge and skills as they learn principles of scientific analysis and design of systems as well as programming in an object-oriented environment. The last two (2) trimesters consist of advanced topics in software development in the Web including industry integration through a practicum course. A special project culminates the program as the student applies all the theories learned in the development of a business application software.

The Software Development program is designed to educate students to apply theories and principles of software design and construction. This means that students will build a broad base of expertise in programming, object oriented software design, and applications. Students are expected to be comfortable working with and designing graphical user interfaces, working with multiple operating systems and development environments, analyzing application requirements, and specifying a system architecture that meets the needs of an application.

CAREER PATH

The Associate in Software Development program targets those who, in the near future, want to become:

  • Systems Analyst
  • Software Solutions Designer
  • Software Solutions Developer
  • World-Class Programmer
