Network & Telecommunications Technologies PDF Print E-mail

RATIONALE:

The technology that drives corporate information systems continues to change rapidly, particularly as Internet technologies impact on every aspect of business applications. The speed and sophistication of new and developing network technologies have led to a boom in LAN and WAN based distributed computing. Rapidly rising communication speeds, improving wireless capability, and other technological advances have extended the scope of corporate networking and the need for training.

ACLC then should recognize the need to provide effective generic training for students seeking to take advantage of the opportunities made available by the deployment of Internet and intranet technology

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Associate Degree in Networking and Telecommunication Technologies is a 2-year ladderized curriculum. At the end of the first two (2) trimesters, the students are already given a Certificate in Networking and Telecommunication Technologies upon acquiring foundation knowledge and skills upon which to build their network training that includes preparation for an MCP Certification. Advancing further into the next two (2) trimesters, a Diploma in Networking and Telecommunication Technologies is given upon acquiring intermediate knowledge and skills in structured cabling, VoIP theory, OSI model, lower layer protocols, repeaters, bridges, switches, routers, and combination devices. The last two (2) trimesters consist of advanced topics such as wireless communications, ATM, Internet Protocol (IP) addressing scheme and the limitations of this scheme, subnetting and supernetting, and techniques used to make an efficient use of the current IP addressing scheme. The program culminates with industry integration through a practicum course and an undertaking of a special project on design and implementation of a network.

The Networking and Telecommunications Technologies program is designed for individuals new to networking seeking a thorough overview of networking and communications technologies. Students will be introduced to the networking principles and protocols encountered when supporting corporate internetworks. In addition, this program will help learners to understand terms, concepts, technologies, and devices commonly used in networking. Cisco technology is integrated into the curriculum consisting of courses that will help prepare students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

CAREER PATH

The Associate in Networking &Telecommunication Technologies program targets those who, in the near future, want to become:

  • Cisco Systems Network Associate
  • Microsoft Certified Professional
  • Network Administrators
  • Technical Support Officers
